A Few Pics of Abu Dhabi

This month I will close this blog for good. I'm back in the US now; it's definitely time.
I haven't posted much lately because I'm not quite sure what I want to say.
Flowers in the Sand, Abu Dhabi has been a signifcant part of my life for the past 18-or-so months. It's not easy to say khalas. (For the umpteenth time, please forgive atrocious attempt at Arabic spelling.)
With the end in sight, I thought I'd post a few pictures of AD now and again. Unless noted, all were taken by M.
Above is a view of the east side of Abu Dhabi, from the Abu Dhabi Mall. The Beach Rotana pool is visible below the Gulf.
This was taken near the Cultural Foundation and Airport Road.

A side street in Abu Dhabi at night: lots of cars parked here, there, and everywhere.Posted by Picasa

Hi Frances,
I have followed your blog for a few months now & found it to be very informative. We live in the midwest & my husband has been commuting to Abu Dhabi for business since Feb. My first visit was in August as there is a possibility that we may move there by end of summer 2009 for a couple of years. I feel that I wouldn't have been as prepared for this trip without your blog--thank you. I felt that it was rather difficult in finding someone to help us look for a place to live. There aren't many options at the moment as they aren't able to build fast enough to accommodate the growing area. Is it possible that I can communicate with you via email as you stated that "you will close this blog for good"?

Yes, can write me any time. My email address is: flowersinthesand@hotmail.com.
The housing shortage seems to be the major obstacle for people, and also the too-few spaces in schools for newcomers' children.
Regards,
F.

Well, I have really enjoyed your blog and getting to know a little bit about you. I think we would have hit it off instantly if we met each other in person. I wish the absolute best for you and your family. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful pictures and interesting posts.

Thanks so much Ilka. I agree, I know we would be friends if we met. Thank you so much for commenting when you did, it made me feel as though I was getting my thoughts across. I enjoyed writing this blog so much, and maybe even more did I enjoy hearing from people who read it. In this rapidly-changing world, blogging is an amazing way to interact with others from vastly different places and cultures. I'm hooked forever on reading blogs, if not always writing one.

It has always been a pleasure reading your blog. Home felt much closer - thank you from the bottom of my heart for the lovely pictures and tid bits on ways of life back in the UAE.

Wish you, and family the best days & years ahead. I shall miss this blog.

Thanks, Rosh. Of course you are in a class by yourself in blog writing. I love you blog.
The thing that's so hard about ending this blog is that it was a lifeline for so long. I guess all writers have this compelling need to put their thoughts out there in the hope that someone will connect and understand them. For me, the blog offered that. I would sit down after my children left for school in Abu Dhabi, trying to work on my novel, and I would click on my blog instead. The words flowed effortlessly. Then if someone wrote to me it was like, "ah! someone gets it!" and even if they didn't at least I got it out there. So I know I'm overblowing it, but all I'm trying to say is that it was a tremendous outlet for my thoughts and observations. Hope we stay in touch.
Regards,
F.
